TEVET Breaks Ground for the New Christian Life Center

TEVET Breaks Ground for the New Christian Life Center

Greeneville, TN – Yesterday, TEVET CEO Tracy Solomon participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Christian Life Center for Holston United Methodist Home for the Children. “The new facility has been in the making for the past 70 years,” Charles Hutchins, Director of Church Relations and lovingly known as “Mr. Holston Home,” stated during the ceremony. He has been with the organization from the early years of the organization and has had the opportunity to see it flourish.

The new facility has been in construction planning for over the past 3 years. Its concept evolved from “a chapel in the woods to a multipurpose, contemporary space that welcomes all,” explained by Kent Bewley, Board of Trustee and Design Team, Chair.  The contemporary space - 18,000 square-feet -  answers the needs that organization faces – a large space for gatherings, development of their performing arts group, future growth and expansion opportunities, and flexibility for recreational spaces during the cold and the hot days of East Tennessee.

The facility’s design is also functional in a different manner – aesthetics. The design is intentionally not a chapel. Over time, Holston Home has come to realize that there is an uneasiness that some people have when entering a chapel, or a building in strong resemblance. In order to continue their outreach, Holston Home decided to create the new facility that will be a comfortable, welcoming place to all. It was best stated by Bradley Williams, Holston Home President and CEO, during the ceremony, “This is an intentional, dedicated space that allows us to share the favor of God to kids, their families, and the community. We get the incredible honor to help kids unpack heavy, hard stuff while introducing them to the one that can give them rest. Staying true to God’s call, that is what the building will reflect.” The structure is planned to be completed in Spring 2019.

Tracy Solomon, CEO and President of TEVET, sits on the Holston Home Board of Trustee and Executive Committee. “It is a true honor that we [TEVET] get to participate with an organization as strong and positive as Holston Home. To be able to touch so many lives throughout our community and change the futures of so many children and families is a blessing. We are thankful that we are allowed to be a part and do our part for the Holston Home mission.” For TEVET, strengthening families and our community is a cornerstone in our outreach. If we can play a part in an organization that has strengthened families for decades, then we will and continue to do so as long as we can. We agree with “Mr. Holston Home”, Charles Hutchins, “The dream is alive, and it has been all these years.”
