Fighting 5G’s Waveform Battery Vampire – National Instruments

Fighting 5G’s Waveform Battery Vampire – National Instruments

“5G is going to come with a price, and that price is battery consumption,” James Kimery, National Instruments. The promises of 5G include more speed, more capabilities, and fewer base stations for power and service. Currently, that isn’t the case.

Let’s face it, we all are constrained by either signal or battery life…or both. 5G is supposed to answer both. But with all great inventions, and implicating them, there are hurdles. Power source and the amount needed are just two hurdles for the latest update, Release 16, that is expected by year’s end. Now, it is up to the 3GPP to come up with alternative solutions to overcome these hurdles.
