TEVET has earned the U.S. Small Business Administration’s prestigious 2015 Small Business Subcontractor of the Year Award for Region IV TEVET, LLC, headquartered in Mosheim, Tenn., has earned the U.S. Small Business Administration’s prestigious Regional Small Business Subcontractor of the Year honor.
Established in 2004, TEVET is wholly owned and operated by a third generation Service Disabled Veteran and is HUBZone certified. TEVET is a Value Added Reseller (VAR) and distributer of new and refurbished test equipment. The company offers highly configurable technical solutions via traditional procurement methods along with its proprietary Punchout/OCI catalog solutions.
Tracy Solomon is Founder, President and CEO of TEVET. Solomon has taken TEVET from conception, in his basement, to a company producing over $106 million in revenue in 2014. He has positioned TEVET as a value-add, customer centric reseller providing electronic test and measurement products to the federal government, including all branches of the armed forces and leading prime contractors. Life sciences and chemical analysis products have recently been added to the TEVET product-offering portfolio.
Solomon feels the role of his business is to connect other companies with the best products to get their job done efficiently, as well as providing troubleshooting and on-site asset management and logistics solutions. Satellite offices of TEVET are located in several major cities, including Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Los Angeles. However, the main branch and the bulk of the company’s operations are located in Mosheim, Tenn. Solomon, who grew up on a farm in East Tennessee, joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school and was trained as an Aviation Electronics Technician. While serving in the Navy, Solomon earned his BA in Business and later earned an MBA in Business from the University of Texas.
In 2004, Solomon took out a second mortgage on his home to start TEVET. Later he obtained an SBA Patriot Express loan to carry the business until he could build up a sustainable cash flow.
Solomon chose his headquarters to be in Greene County, TN as a way to restore economic vitality in his hometown. Despite the lack of a skilled employee pool with knowledge in complex test & measurement, business, and defense marketplaces, Solomon did not let that dissuade him. Clearly, without skilled employees to manage and support customers, TEVET’s niche as being a strategic, innovative partner would not be realized. To solve the problem, Mr. Solomon partnered with industry and business experts to ferret out local, high potential candidates to train in the test and measurement industry. This has not only worked out well for TEVET and the Greene County community, but has been one of the keys to TEVET’s double digit success.
TEVET supports those who support the warfighter, with its primary focus on supporting the aerospace and defense industry. Additional support within the industry is shown through involvement with professional memberships such as the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA), and the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). TEVET regularly attends and exhibits at conferences in support of each organization.
Solomon regularly attends NDIA TRIAD meetings along with AIA CEO Call to Action meetings and executes on AIA CEO Call to Actions by relaying AIA’s concerns to his local and state representatives.
Solomon also regularly visits representatives in Washington D.C. to lobby in favor of defense related programs on behalf of their defense customer base. TEVET also supports their customer’s efforts by sending letters to their representatives on an as needed basis at their request.
Recently Solomon was recognized by the SBA as the 2014 Small Business Person of the Year Award for the State of Tennessee and the 2014 HUBZone Corporate Citizen of the Year Award.
Nominated by Raytheon Company, the Regional Small Business Subcontractor of the Year award honors small businesses that have provided the government and industry with outstanding goods and services as subcontractors.
Only large federal prime contractors, such as Raytheon, may nominate one firm for the Small Business Subcontractor of the Year Award.
